A New Year arises.....

Can you smell it? No, well quick go open the front door and smell, and on your way back here take a big whiff in the kitchen too. Don't worry I will wait................. So did you do it? More importantly did you smell that? Yup that is the smell of a new year. Nope it isn't quite as unique or good as a new car, new baby or puppy breath, but this is the smell that we get for the new year. I don't really mind it, it has lingerings of Christmas smells because my tree is still up, and we are eating leftovers for dinner still. Some of the other odors aren't the greatest I suppose, turkey and turnip farts, for one, beer and wine burps another. But hey it's a new year!

Many people make and try hard to keep their resolutions in January, stay far away from the gym right now because it is more crowded than the forest on the first day of moose hunting season. Others will vow to quit smoking, I am sure that cigarette sales see a large drop in January only to rebound again in February. I set the same resolution year after year, it is an easy one for me, but I think more people should try it. My resolution is to be happy, and enjoy my family everyday. Even when I have a rough day I can still always find something to smile about in my kids, husband and hound doggies faces.

I like January, the days begin getting longer again and the real cold of winter comes. Usually more snow accompanying it. Mornings of - 45 Celsius greet us when it isn't snowing and the radio announcer will tell us that the school buses aren't running. We will have a day to enjoy indoors playing cards, ping pong, pool, and board games. We will most likely bake something scrumptious for dessert. A single moment handed to us to take advantage of, wouldn't you? January brings back Saturday movie nights, and Sunday game nights, and a crisp cleanness is everywhere outside up north.

The boys got a wii for their birthday and we have been enjoying that quite a bit, between NHL, Mario cart, and Sports resort the boys are rocking it out on that thing. I wonder how long until the novelty will wear off. When they first got their D.S. 's it was all them for a few weeks and now they rarely play, same as the play station that they got a few years back. But I am sure that it will always come in handy when the weather is nasty, in the winter or one of those days where it just pours for 3 days straight in the spring. I am once again battling my back with a few good days over the holidays to be nearly back to square one yesterday. I am booking a doctors appointment after the office opens back up on the 9th. I have got to get that MRI done to figure out why it spasms so bad.

The boys head back to school on the 10th. To a brand new school I might add, no kids have even drank from the fountains yet, or peed on the floor behind the toilet!! The parents get a tour on the 16th, I wonder if the "new school" smell will have worn off yet, and the smell of stinky shoes, and sweaty kids will have taken over? More so I wonder how long till one of my boys tell me that a bathroom stall has an "out of order" sign on the door. There is a lot to look forward to this coming year, more baby chicks hatching, new little piglets in the spring, the new school, planting the garden, days of fishing, and days of play. Many new memories to make. I hope that you make many new ones as well!!
